Tourmalet Recce

Jul 11th, 2010 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

After my nightmare on the Ventoux on last years Etape I decided to do a recce of the Tourmalet this year, partly to see what it’s like and partly to mentally complete an HC climb without feeling so bad.
I left Lourdes at roughly mid day to get to Tourmalet 30km away. This would give [...]

Wanlockhead Hill Repeats

Apr 19th, 2010 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

After an aborted attempt due to snow last weekend I finally got to Wanlockhead for some training.
The route would take me up the Mennock Pass before turning up towards the radar station at the summit of Lowthar Hill.  It is a 10km climb up the Mennock Pass followed by 5km to the top of the [...]

Cramond Swimming!

Apr 19th, 2010 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

Headed out today for a short lop around Cramond.  It only takes 20 minutes but was quite an interesting ride.
Firstly the whole seawall is in pieces from the storm last week.  I have never seen it like this before.
In complete contrast was the weather today.  Sunny and bright which was enough for a couple of [...]

First Crash

Mar 11th, 2010 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

Headed out on Saturday to do a quick blast around the Winchburgh loop and had my first fall, I guess I’m a proper roadie now!
I think it was due to mud that is on the road before coming into the village from some large trucks working on a site. As I turned right out [...]

Morning Ride + Film

Mar 6th, 2010 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

Got out for a ride before breakfast today and had my new camera mounted on the bike.  The camera is only £12 and all the info is on this thread at Bikeradar.
I mounted it on my bike with an old light fitting bracket.

Another training block finishes

Mar 1st, 2010 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

Well I have finished the TCTP.  The last 2 weeks haven’t been as good as I hoped mainly due to work rather than the program.  How sad I can’t fit in 6 hours!
Did a short ride around the Winchburgh loop on Sunday and even with the wind got around in an hour.  Feeling happy about [...]

Blackhall Cycling Club formed?

Feb 16th, 2010 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

We got another new member to our Sunday ride this week which now puts us up to 5.
It certainly makes the run more enjoyable and it’s good to get some shelter from the wind when required
Another good ride though and feeling stronger on the hills this year.  Hopefully the TCTP is paying off.

Legs in agony

Jan 22nd, 2010 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

I am near the end of the 3rd week of the TCTP and my legs are aching.  Every time you feel you are making  a break through it seems to ramp up a small notch.  With everything at a high intensity the small notch hurts.
Last night I could hardly get to sleep as my quads [...]

Intensity Training!

Jan 16th, 2010 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

Just done the first session of Steady Effort Power Intervals (SEPI) from the Time Crunched cyclist and was absolutely wiped.
There are 2 sets of intervals with 3 x 2 minute reps at the highest power value you can hold for the period of time.  My legs finally gave up on the very last interval with [...]

Snow and Punctures

Jan 10th, 2010 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

I was due a 2 hour session today but couldn’t face the thought of it in the garage on the turbo so decided to give the Linlithgow loop a go.
Got a couple of layers on and felt fine so headed out.  First problem was the snow had filled my cleats so they wouldn’t clip in.  [...]
