Training Program
This year I am getting a head start on my training program. Last year I got both kness operated on in October so never got to really start until January and then from a poor base.
I have started this year in the first week in November with my base program. This is based on the “Lance Armstrong Performance Program” book. I use the intermediate 7 week training schedule as I think this is ideal for the time of year. This will take me through until the end of December when I will plan my schedule for 2010. i will definately be looking to increase the intensity and distances earlier this year.
What am I using
- Tacx Basic trainer which can give me Power measurements
- Garmin Edge 305
- My bike!!
- ChaseK DVD (these are some good DVD’s of cycling through Cape Town, South Africa which get rid of trainer boredom)
I have now updated the training file for the first 8 weeks of 2010. I got given the Time Crunch Cyclist book from Santa so I am going to use the Experienced Century plan for this period.
The book is very clear about the Pro’s and Cons of the program due to only training 6 hours a week. What it does do though is focus on very high intensity to improve your sustainable power output. If I get this done now (Jan/Feb) then I can concentrate on extending ride times once the weather improves in March.
