<<Registration day How the Pro’s do it >>

Well the day had finally arrived and it was time to do the Etape.
We got up at 4.30 and made some porridge then at 5am headed to Montelimar.  We began to pass people cycling in from about 6 miles out.  It was still pitch black and they weren’t [...]

How the Pro’s do it

Aug 3rd, 2009 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

Thought I would put this in for anyone who hasn’t had a chance to watch a Tour stage.
We went to watch the Montilimar - Ventoux stage but unfortunately from where we were staying it was going to be a nightmare to try and get onto Ventoux and watch from there and try to keep small [...]

Registration Day

Aug 3rd, 2009 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

With the Etape on the Monday we decided to register on Saturday to avoid having to do any travel on the Sunday.
Arriving at the registration village felt quite special, it was good to be a part of this event rather than a watcher.

We headed along for a registration and were pleasantly surprised with the rucksack [...]

A long commute

Apr 24th, 2009 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

I ended up crashing at my parents house in Glasgow last night due to car disasters.  I had the bike with me so decided to cycle home much to the surprise of my mum.
It turned out to be a nice morning and with the pressure of being home in time for work it meant I [...]

Easter Weekend

Apr 16th, 2009 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

Headed up to Nairn for the weekend and maanged to get some good climbing practice in.  Stopped at Aviemore on the way up and did a ride up the road to the ski station.  Probably the longest hill I have had to tackle this year and quite enjoyed it.  So much I did it twice!
Once [...]

Just done my first time over 200W for an hour (203W).  Average speed was 38km/hr.
Delighted, feels like real progress

Base training finished

Feb 23rd, 2009 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

That is the end of my seven week base program.  So 33 hours on the turbo and 804km.
After the rest week in week 4 I redid the fitness test as I felt things were getting too easy.  This upped my power figures by about 30% (not a lot when the number is small to begin [...]

Week 4 - Rest at last

Jan 28th, 2009 | By Kev | Category: Kev's Training

The first time I went on a surf holiday for a week the instructor told us we would have the fourth day as a rest day.  As 3 boys on tour we scoffed and said don’t be so stupid.  On the fourth day we were lying happily on the beach absolutely exhausted.  A similar thing has [...]

First Week of training

Jan 12th, 2009 | By Kev | Category: Training

Well that’s the first week over and was surprisingly good.  I have followed my training program and my initial thoughts before starting was it possibly was going to be too easy.  Thankfully that hasn’t been the case and I have also noted improvements already.
I was able to do my long ride this week (1 1/2 [...]
